Been a busy evening of scanning through old magazines, but I’m pleased to let you know there are fresh reviews for the site from What Hi-Fi? magazines dating back to the early 1990s. There are reviews for the A7 II, Sapphire II and Merlin. What Hi-Fi? always praised the Royd speakers for their speed and timing, but their overall preference often lied elsewhere.
A7 II Review, What Hi-Fi? Nov 1991
Merlin Review, What Hi-Fi? Dec 1994
Sapphire II Review, What Hi-Fi? August 1993
I’ve finally found a review of the Royd Topaz, from What Hi-Fi? April 1994. The Topaz was a budget 7 ltr stand mount speaker, that never gained a huge popularity, despite its respectable performance. Read the full review here.
Added a review of The Herald, from What Hi-Fi? April 1997. Just a short review, but does shed some light on this less common model.
You can now find another review of the Royd Sorcerers, from What Hi-Fi? July 1998. It features the Sorcerers in a group test of eight other competing speakers of the day.
I’d like to thank Doug Maskew for sending in a scan of the promotional booklet that came with his brand new Sorcerers from 15 years ago.
