Hi, recently acquired a pair of Royd Envoys. Running them currently with a NAD C375BEE. Not hearing any glaring deficit, but wondering what might be a solid state integrated amp upgrade, not so much in power output but in sound quality? Room is 20 x 18, a little big for these but I don’t mind a little less bass output. Floors are hardwood. Mostly jazz, rock, e.g. Joe Sample, Joan Osborne, Dave Koz, Joe Walsh, etc. Also, any issues due to ageing I should be aware of? Thank you very much.

In reply to Alan Brown. Thanks for the site. I have a pair of Royd Minstrels, but they are missing the round badge at the bottom. Could you send me a picture of what the badge looked like so I can obtain a replacement?

Hi! I have Royd Apex speakers that i love. Because of a move i have had them boxed up. When i boxed them up for safe transport i removed the spikes and can’t find them. What diameter are the spikes? Is the thread an M6 or perhaps an M8?

Hello, great article, I’ve been wandering if I could improve music listening with my surround system
I’m using denon x2700 receiver with monitor audio bronze 2 speakers.
Do you think adding an integrated amplifier like cambridge cxa61 would be a good improvement for my listening?. Or maybe a streamer and use the DAC and pre (cambridge cxn2).

In reply to José Vitorino. I’m a former bidder on the royd empire ,I spent 8 days at Joes house in Shropshire . His knowledge of speaker design is second to none in my opinion. The speakers he has designed over the years were for discerning ears. I have a pair of the original sorcerers ,incredibly warm and detailed It is unfortunate that the royd bass driver went with when he retired.

Thanks for explaining that AV receivers should not digitize incoming signals because that degrades and colors the sound. My husband and I want to get a really nice electronic sound system for the home theater of our custom-built house, and we’re currently in the process of finding the right company to purchase one from. I’m glad I read your article because you gave me some great questions to discuss with the sound professionals we choose.

Hi,

I have a very nice old Class A pre-amp. I mainly listen to music and sometimes home cinema at my friends place. My Friend wants to sell his Home cinema amplifier – in stereo mode its ok, it has got pre-out and mains in. Do you think by adding my pre-amp will produce a decent quality stereo?

Hi Arthur.

Ive just bought a pair of Coniston R speakers from Ebay last week and they are the best speakers i have had so far.Was using Kef Coda 3 Mission 70 and some Tannoy 603 before.The detail and depth is amazing for their size.I am using a Planar 3 and Quad 34 and 306 power amp.Ive noticed that the sponge on the rear ports have come away or deterioated.Will this affect the sound quality in any way?Ive placed them on stands about a foot from the wall.Ill be keeping a look out for a better model of Royd in the near future.Great little speakers.All the best

Have succeeded in replacing the foam surrounds to my A7 speakers. I bought the surround and glue from the Dutch company.

One piece of advice, if you can so NOT try to pull the speaker forward (as Pink fish does) to replace the foam. I found that leaving it in situ meant that wen it came to aligning the speaker it was far easier. It simply sits in the middle without any interference. When I had one pulled forward, it was really hard to line it up. I hope this helps people.
